How these 3 speakers are inspiring a community of black photographers

photo-cookout-event-display-imageOne part conference, one part family cookout (and bomb potato salad) – The Photo Cookout is an annual event that aims to inspire and connect a global community of passionate Black photographers. Created and hosted by Dr. Tomayia Colvin, The Photo Cookout features educational seminars led by pro photographers, guided photo walks and styled shoots to elevate every portfolio, and networking opportunities with other industry professionals.

Sprout Studio is a proud sponsor and supporter of The Photo Cookout; we’re thrilled to introduce you to 3 incredible members of the Sprout Studio fam who will each be speaking on their photography expertise at this year’s event in Chattanooga, TN.

Read on and get to know each speaker and learn what they’ll be teaching this year!

Meet LaJune King

LaJune is a Pink Starburst who has specialized in the client experience for her personal branding and families of Color clients for 10 years. Her goal is to change for narrative for Black men, women, and people of colour with every image she captures.

In her own words:

I’m an entire mood, they say. I lead with joy first.
I picked up the camera shortly after I became pregnant with my son and grew to love it instantly. I know the magic of what a simple picture can do for you.
My mission is to be what I want the world to see. To change the narrative for Black women in business, Black men, families and people of Color through portraiture. I will renew your spirit with every frame that I take. I want to empower every single client to be the best version of themselves so that when I leave this Earth, those behind me (especially my children) will know that I was here.

LaJune’s Photo Cookout Class: Photo 5 ways to incorporate YOU into your client experience

LaJune is focusing her seminar on how to build replicable systems that ensure a seamless client experience, including the various tools that Sprout provides so photographers can give their clients the WOW factor they may be missing. LaJune’s class will highlight how her signature Pink Starburst client experience allows her to retain clientele and attract new clients, all while receiving 5-star Google reviews!

Meet Annette Matthews

Annette is a professional boudoir photographer and creative director. With a portrait photography background and experience in other areas of photography, she captures exceptional creative images which show how differently we express self-love.

In her own words:

I have been photographing professionally since 2017, and my passion for the camera was burning bright long before that. Growing up, I always had a camera with me – seeking to capture that real, authentic, genuine moment.
My style of photography is best described as natural and vivid. I capture my clients naturally and encourage them to be their true, authentic selves when shooting. My clients have said I’m great at artistically capturing powerful photos and finding the light in every personality.

Annette’s Photo Cookout Class: Posing Same-Sex Couples with Confidence

Annette’s course will help photographers feel more confident when posing same-sex couples. Photographers may often shy away from opportunities when faced with the comfortability of working with a demographic client whom they have not photographed before. With Annette’s guidance, photographers will learn how to build trust with clients, plus gain the opportunity to photograph couples of the LGBTQ+ community to create a beautifully inclusive portfolio.

Meet Osa Igiede

Osa is a headshot and corporate event photographer who creates images for everyday people and inclusive content for large organizations. He provides brand clarity and marketing materials for his creative and young professional clients to help grow their digital sphere of influence.

In his own words:

My name is Osakpolo Igiede; it means God Is Big, but we’re going to be friends so you can just call me Osa.
For the past three years, I’ve been providing people with warm, inspiring, and impactful photo sessions. In the age of social media, we have access to cameras in our pockets but honestly, no one should have to experience using an iPhone or Android front-facing camera to take their LinkedIn profile photo. As a Black photographer, I enjoy creating impactful images that capture meaningful moments and tell compelling stories for my clients.

Osa’s Photo Cookout Class: Freeing yourself from your worst enemy, YOU: 5 reasons why you are the cause of your own burnout

Osa’s course is for everyone who has experienced creative paralysis; getting so caught up in your head that you can’t execute your brilliant ideas. With Osa’s guidance, photographers will uncover the 5 reasons why their creative fire is dimming and learn tactical tips on how to stop burning out.
