I often teach photographers about productivity and efficiency. The foundation of our popular Take Back Your 80 program was simple – when you install the right systems and processes in your business, you can spend more time doing what you love.
One of the basics that I teach about is the use of “templates” in your your business systems. Take email templates for example.
Think about how many times you write the same “your online gallery is ready” email. It would be a good use of your time to write that email once and use it over and over again, right?
Most of the times when I talk about this idea, photographers say “I’ve been meaning to do that”, because who has time to write a bunch of email templates, right?
You may acknowledge that having systems and templates are effective, but have you actually built them yet?
That brings us back to the beginning of this email. There’s probably things (like writing email templates) that you’ve been meaning to do, but haven’t yet. When will you choose to spend the time now to save the time in the long-run?
Maybe you don’t have the time right now.
Well … what if it didn’t take any time?
The old way of templates
Let’s walk through how acquiring email templates would normally work, assuming you didn’t want to write them yourself.
You’d buy email templates from an online store, which would basically be a text document with pre-written email replies. From there, you’d have to find a way to implement these in your daily systems so you actually make use of them.
Almost sounds like more time (and money) than it’s worth, doesn’t it?
Maybe that’s how you feel, and maybe that’s why you haven’t done anything about it yet.
I believe that a system is only as good as it’s implementation.
